Proofreading

Proofreading is careful reading (and re-reading) of a yet-to-be-published document, to detect any errors in spelling, punctuation, or grammar. It may also involve checking different elements of a layout (such as headlines, paragraphs, illustrations and colours) for their dimensions, placement and type.

Proofreading and editing business reports, submissions, proposals, company newsletters, formal correspondence, agreements and contracts, advertisements, marketing materials, e-books, ezines, webpages, magazines, educational textbooks or workbooks, resumes and book manuscripts (fiction or non-fiction).

Editing

An edit is a thorough review of your draft to correct errors and identify and fix confusing sentences or paragraphs. It’s a line-by-line tidy-up of your draft. Editing asks and answers the following questions:

Is the meaning of that sentence clear?

Can that paragraph be expressed more concisely?

Are the sentences too long? Too short? Too complicated?

Is there a transition missing between those two points?
